Heterogeneidad Social
2009-2010 | Painting, Drawing
This series is composed of paintings and drawings made on multiple sheets of paper placed side by side. Both concept and practical decision are central to the work — the modular format allowed me to create large-scale pieces that could be easily transported, while the fragility of paper reinforces the ideas of vulnerability, fragmentation, and interdependence.
Each sheet functions as an individual unit. Together, they form a larger image.
The visible seams are intentional. They reinforce the idea of fragmentation, accumulation, and interdependence. Separate parts coexist, overlap, and negotiate space — much like individuals within a social structure.
Rooted in the idea that the whole is more than the sum of its parts, Heterogeneidad Social reflects on how identities are shaped collectively. Differences do not dissolve; they remain visible. Yet meaning emerges precisely through their coexistence.
The work proposes a simple but persistent question: how do we remain distinct while forming part of something larger?
