Seasons (Out of Sync)

2011 | Oil Painting on Paper 30x40 cm each

A polyptych composed of four seemingly identical paintings. Only one shifts in color. The gesture remains the same — repeated, replicated, rehearsed. What first appears spontaneous and energetic is in fact carefully copied by the artist, questioning the idea of originality and the authority of the unique mark.

From left to right, the image moves just a few centimeters, like a slow pan or a hand-painted animation. The same figures reappear in Munich’s Olympiapark — barefoot, partially covered, suspended between exposure and shelter.

The four panels refer to winter, spring, summer and autumn. Yet the seasons no longer behave as expected. Their boundaries blur. Extremes intensify. What emerges is the illusion of an “eternal spring” — a pleasant surface masking instability. The work reflects on repetition: of gesture, of image, of climate patterns increasingly out of balance.

Originally exhibited in the project Geografía Humana at the Festival Internacional de las Artes de Costa Rica, 2012.
