Why I Love Teaching Painting & Drawing Classes for Beginners in Berlin

Drawing and Painting are some of the most grounding, joyful ways to reconnect with yourself, especially for those who work mainly at a computer or are seeking meaningful offline activities.

Berlin’s creative, bold, and free character inspires me every day in my personal practice and in my painting and drawing classes. At the same time, being such a big and fast-paced city, many people here are navigating loneliness, digital fatigue, or simply searching for sober, in-person group activities that feel meaningful. My goal is to offer a space where you can slow down, reconnect with yourself, and build a creative habit that feels inspiring, mindful, and accessible.

Whether you are looking for regular weekly sessions or spontaneous one-day workshops, you are welcome to join my classes across the city, in Neukölln, Mitte, Kreuzberg and Charlottenburg. All workshops are designed for adults who want to learn creatively, and build confidence step by step.

I teach in English, German, and Spanish, and my approach is ideal for complete beginners as well as anyone returning to art after a long break or experiencing a creative block. Whether your intention is to express your creativity, find your style, simply take a moment for yourself, or if you are searching for a experience-based gift.

You can currently find my workshops at Berlin Drawing Room, Modulor, Eszenzia, Fincan, and Dharma Studios, as well as as in private team-building sessions for companies and groups.

I am Juancar, a Painting & Drawing Instructor in Berlin (EN/DE/ES)

My name is Juancar (he/him), and I am an artist and instructor based in Berlin. For years, I have years of experience in drawing and painting, and now I help beginners develop their artistic skills through structure, experimentation, and play.

My background includes university studies in art production and studio painting. In my classes, I share my knowledge in composition, color theory, observational drawing, figurative, abstraction and expressiveness.

Don’t worry, if you haven’t held a pencil or paintbrush since childhood. My classes are designed to make creative learning accessible to everyone. I work with small groups, so you receive personalized feedback. My exercises adapt to different levels: if you have experience, you’ll go deeper; if you’re just starting, you’ll enjoy it from the very first minute.

My Teaching Method: Playful, Clear, and Experimental

Learning by Doing

My classes focus on hands-on practice. I demonstrate each step and give simple exercises that help you understand composition, color, and paint handling, without pressure or perfectionism. Trust the process!

A Relaxed and Supportive Environment

I design my workshops for adults who want to use painting and drawing as a way to disconnect from stress, as well as for those who want to improve their skills before beginning formal art studies. Sessions combine short and long exercises, technical learning, and time for personal expression.

Small Groups and Personal Feedback

With groups of  6 to 20 participants, I’m able to give personalized feedback to each person. I break down techniques into clear steps and adapt my exercises to your level, to help you expand your comfort zone with specific, constructive challenges.

Accessible Techniques & Materials

A common beginner worry is “doing it right”. I believe we should keep the mindset of a child who draws and paints with confidence, curiosity and joy. Do it for fun, experiment, discover… What I enjoy most is watching my students surprise themselves. Expect experimental exercises that help you relax into your creativity. I’ll help you build confidence from the first stroke.
